Dada Saheb Phalke took training from JJ School of Art. He was a magician, and he also did a photography course. Because of that, he has been associated with the printing business for a long time. But in 2010, his partner stopped financing him. After which Dada Saheb became quite irritable due to loss in business.

Dadasaheb's age was 40 years. Dadasaheb saw a film made on Jesus at Christmas time. After which he decided that he would become a filmmaker.

Dada Saheb Phalke created the silent film Raja Harishchandra. This is India's first Hindi movie. The interesting thing is that the boys played the role of girls in this film. Dada Saheb himself was seen in the role of King Harishchandra. Dada Saheb Phalke made many films after this film.

The Government of India started the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in the year 1969 in memory of Dada Saheb. After which these awards are given every year for individual lifetime of Indian cinema, for their lifetime contribution to films.

In the Dada Saheb Prize, the winner gets Rs 10 lakh and the gold lotus is given to the winner. Dada Saheb Phalke Award was first given to Devika Rani in the year 1969 for her outstanding contribution to Hindi films. At the same time, Dada Saheb Phalke Award for the year 2017 was given to the renowned actor Vinod Khanna of the 80's for his outstanding performance in Hindi films.
